Here comes the evidence...Keep 'em coming!

Esther W. sent in these gems of KM evidence.
This one's a double whammy.
#55 Being Green and #42 Plastic Bags

At first glance it's just your average 70's dishwasher...

Surprise!
Did you just die a little inside? I know I did.

Lo and behold, a colorful treasure trove of KM goodies aka plastic bags (cue heavenly chorus). Al Gore would be proud. Her conservation single handedly saved some endangered baby seal from Andrew Zimmern's stomach.

PS- Many of you emailed me saying you're too afraid to bring forth your evidence. Suck it up bitches. It's totally worth it.

I'll see if I can get a photo of my friend's mom's dishwasher inside - she keeps snacks in there!!!
(and she's always hiding HIS favourite chips - though he finds them anyway haha)

This is number 16 too! Not washing dishes ahahhaaga

My mother has that very same dishwasher! But she keeps a hundred serving utensils and mismatched food storage containers in hers.

If I didn't live 2000+ miles away, I'd totally hook you up with a photo! :)

dishwasher = waste of water!

dishwasher = dish storage :)

My KMIL = extremely anti-dishwasher usage for dishes. I have never opened hers, but I wouldn't doubt it's a storage area too.

I didn't get a picture of this, but my DH took our son over to his parents' house today, and on the way, saw his dear KM picking dandilions out of people's yards all the way down the street from her house. :)

I can't wait to go home for Christmas. Picture taking, here I come! :D

I did just die a little inside! My aunt uses hers for tupperware storage which is also from the 70s. Most of them are dark green or orange colored. Remember those?

asian people don't believe in dishwashers...they're really just glorified dish racks.

My KM loves one thing above all others...Napping.

Your blog is... fantastic. I'm just speechless when I read your blog and think you're writing about my mom. Cheers! I wish you the best this holiday season.

Everyone knows that dishwashers were made for Tupperware storage! Especially the FREE ones that you get with takeout. Or the ones that kimchi comes in!

Helena said...

My husband asked me if perhaps the bags were in the dishwasher to be washed, but I guess this is not the case.

Hi Chiyo, wishing you Happy Holidays!
I put a post on my blog referring to your 'it's a boy, let's hang chilies around the house' entry...

I love your blog! My mother would die laughing if she read this. Maybe you could also write about how KM's disregard any sense of privacy when it comes to their children. I don't know if it's just my KM, but I'm pretty sure there are others out there that do this. Especially stuff like, knocking and entering anyway without waiting for a response. Could be sort of related to your entry about snooping...Haha.

WOWWWW dude my house has plastic bags in my dishwasher !! she also keeps a few kitchen utencils in there too LOL

This gave me a good laugh since my non-Korean MIL uses her old dishwasher for the exact same thing. She might be more Korean than I thought.

does your mom use red korean dishwashing gloves? or does she use that only to make kimchi? crazy ladies.. haha.

My mum would like to use the dishwasher but doesn't know how! I've never thought to check inside to see what she stores in there...But I can tell you that she store mail and important paperwork in the oven! Lol!

hahaha--- this is toooooooooo funny!!! I was reading this and noticed a comment that was very familiar and sure enough, it was my sister's comment!! Our aunt does this very same thing-- who is an awesome KM, but seriously-- the dishwasher phobia is a mystery!!!

Sad to say... But my mother does the same thing to her dishwasher. But hers is a bit organized lol. It has the grocery bags, brown paper sacks and her pots and pans lol. She has lived in the states over 35+ years and she has never used a dishwasher.

Don't stop posting such stories. I love to read blogs like this. By the way add some pics :)

My Chinese mom does this too! (And now I have made it a habit in my own dishwasher...)

I died laughing because my mom did the same exact thing until she actually got a new dishwasher. Actually, I haven't opened the new one in a while. I wonder if she's up to her old tricks?

Thank you for this blog... I would have been in therapy without it! ALL OF IT IS TRUE!!!!!!!! Now I can laugh about these things that my KMIL does instead of becoming extremely stressed! Keep posting, Chiyo!!

My mom has no asian background, but she does the same thing! Perhaps it's also a brazilian mom thing?

I love this blog! My mom has a dishwasher full of grocery bags and the baking dish displayed in the back drop. Hilarious!!

caesarkim said...

HAHAHA. I laugh only because I am a KM. I didn't think this day was going to come but the cabinet under my kitchen sink looks just like your pic. I don't know what it is about plastic bags... just can't seem to throw them away.

bomi said...

I just want to let you know that my mother has a store, the plastic bags we collect go to her store. It has been like that for years, our American customers say " oh your so green" but I know my KM just doesn't want to buy new bags.

Soo said...

Oh my God, I can't believe it. My mother does exactly the same thing. Old dishwasher stuffed full of plastics bags.

And she prides herself on being so Westernized. ROFL.

She made me do the dishes, of course. :)

(OK, confession time: I stash those plastic bags under my kitchen sink. But at least I use the dishwasher to wash the dishes. In another generation we'll be tossing the bags like they're disposable. Ha.)

Kaathleen said...

My KM-in-law would give this picture the stank eye as her plastic bags are folded with 'hospital corners', a little like the wrapping paper situation you previously mentioned.

moonlightmenuett said...

After receiving the photos can you make a post showing them?

Thank you for this site. My KM is everything you have described. Wish I had this 30 years ago!

I found your blog as I looked for stuff on 'how to deal with difficult KMILs'. The dishwasher/plastic bag is too funny!!!! and so true!!!! My MIL never uses her dishwasher and always brings me the used plastic bags from the produce she bought at the Korean market perhaps because she's got too many.
