#8 Straight A's

A Korean mom believes with her whole being that 'B' stands for bad...Michael Jackson molestation charges bad, not 'Thriller' bad. 'C', D', and 'F' are not even on a Korean mom's radar. Those letters do not even exist.

in 6th grade, i got a B+ and my mom flipped out and called an emergency parent/teacher conference meeting to which she horrifically asked the teacher why i was "failing." to this day, when she tells the story, she swears to everyone the teacher changed my grade to an A because she asked her to, which she didn't. and she swears her memory "is never wrong."

How many out there had this experience? After studying hard, proudly show grade of 99 (or 98, 97, etc - but still an "A") and mother only says "what happened to the other 1 (or 2, 3, etc) point?

Whoa, that last comment rings a bell. I was so thoroughly brainwashed that in the 2nd grade I argued with a teacher about changing a 98 to a 100 because I didn't erase completely and my answer only "looked" wrong but was actually correct. She looked as me like I was crazy and said "Isn't a 98 good enough? It's still an A." Clearly she wasn't raised by a despotic Korean mom!

I got a 93 and my mom got kinda mad. everyone else got like a 70 and she tells me not to compare. Then when she asked what the highest grade was, and it was a 98, she yells at me for not doing as well as him.

Hehehehe, oh the memories! Yup, an A wasn't good enough... It had to be 100%, not 99 or 98... Whatever! B does stand for bad... But here's the kicker... When my lil sis got a B on her report card, I got my ass kicked because I was older and shoulda helped her study since I already knew the stuff and I was responsible for her "failures"!!!

Love always,
Heather

Yep. On my first report card (1st grade/1st semester in a school in Seoul), I got a B in Phys Ed and the rest, A's... My mom yelled at me and said, "What's the B for? You couldn't run fast enough? You just ruined your academic career because of your B!"
That was 31 years ago and I still think about it...

Unless you are like me that through my 9th grade year I made c's and d's...When I did make an A my mom was so thrilled, she gave me money! (maybe because she thought I wasn't mentally handicapped and that her DNA finally kicked in! lol)
