#30 Interpreting dreams

All Korean Moms think they have some sort of pychic power to interpret dreams. Anytime someone has a random dream with a dog, teeth falling out, or a death, a Korean Mom will try and tell you what it means. She is like a Korean version of Miss Cleo and the psychic hotline, except her opinion is always free, and you can't even pay her to stop. Believe me. I've tried. Don't ever tell your Korean Mom about a dream that you've had because she will try and use its 'meaning' to wield her power and control in your life. A Korean Mom will also try and use her own dreams to wield her power and control in your life. Anytime she has a dream, she believes it is a sign from God, as if she is the only existing conduit for divine intervention. Once my mom had a dream I fell off my bike. I wasn't allowed outside for a month. When I finally emerged, my skin was so pasty white, the kids at school started calling me Boo Radley and Powder. To this day she tells everyone she saved my life. I don't even know how to ride a bike. I never had one...my Korean Mom said it was "Waste Money"(see #13).

ahh, dreams...

does your mom tell you dreaming of excrement equates to riches? of course, that would be the interpretation to dreaming of shit... because who really would want to admit they dreamed their own version of 2 girls 1 cup, unless it had a silver lining...

My aunt was a buddhist fortune teller. Had a whole room set up with enormous amounts of candy that we could never eat, and constantly smelled like incense.

I love this blog. It reminds me of growing up so much.

Basically, any dream that is "good" is really bad for you and any bad dream is a good sign! I just call them opposite dreams... And if you see blood, that's EXCELLENT! Go out and buy a lottery ticket! Yes, there's always an explanation for all dreams, yours, mine and my mom's!

Love always,
Heather

P.S. There must be something to it, though, because my MIL dreamt of fish swimming and I was pregnant...

my mom's convinced she has dreams that foreshadow the future. then if ANYHING similar to it happens to happen, she'll go "i told you so".

here is a tip for easy dream interpretation : if you have trouble remembering your dreams, keep a notepad next to your bed and when you wake up in the morning, write down what you remember as fast as possible, as you get into the habit, you will remember in more detail and you will remember all your dreams.

My KM would always intrepret dreams with her mom and her sisters, but whenever I went and asked what my dream meant, she said my dreams are 'Geh Geum' or dog dreams... meaning they weren't important enough to intrepret. Used to piss me off... ha!!

Haha, this is SO true.

Also, whoever commented about the snake dreams, I'm inclined to believe it. I once had a dream that I was at my uncle's house and my cousin and some unknown boy were being choked by a snake, so I told my mom about it. She told me it meant that my uncle's girl friend was pregnant. The next day we got a call telling from relatives saying that my uncle's girl friend was pregnant.

Man, this post is from years ago, but it was still nice to read. Thanks!

AHAHA THIS IS SOOO TRUE.

when she has a "bad" dream, she tells me not to go outside.

I promised to go to a birthday party but my mom suddenly had a dream and she said I shouldn't go. It was more like I couldn't choose.

Everytime I have a dream or my mom has a dream, it's that I'm going to be pregnant with a boy, and he will be a very important man. When I was younger it was always that she was going to die or someone in the family is going to die.
